Moët & Chandon honored Montecito Award winner Oprah Winfrey at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Upon being presented with her customized golden jeroboam the TV mogul raised her golden goblet and exclaimed, “It's pronounced Mo-wet?! For all of these years I've been saying Mo-way?! I can't believe it. Here's cheers to MO’ MOET!” Oprah, a Montecito resident, was overwhelmed to be honored by her own community. The star told the audience, “This was the most amazing invitation I've had lately... I get asked to do a lot of ‘stuff.’ Tonight I just drove down Foothill Rd and turned onto State St and here I am! Y'all should have just come to my house!” During the tribute Oprah danced and shimmied onto the stage to Bruno Mars' "Treasure" setting the high energy tone for the whole night.
Oprah continued to declare, "I lead my life with intention and service," and maintained a humble nature throughout her acceptance speech. She told the audience, "I am under no illusion that I have a body of work! I have done 3 films in 13 years. It’s hard for me to even speak of the upcoming honorees. L-E-O-N-A-R-D-O, Robert Redford… now THEY have a body of work!” She also commented on the three specific roles for which she was being honored.
· On The Color Purple: “The Color Purple changed my life. I have never been happier than when I was on the Color Purple.”
· On Charlotte's Web: "I think I was poorly cast at the goose. I didn't think it fit. The goose needed to be rounder!"
· On tapping into emotion for her role in The Butler: "The time I was holding onto the bumper of my ex-boyfriends Datson Z and he was pulling away. Lord have mercy! I tapped into that experience!”
Earlier this week, Moët & Chandon honored winner of Performer of the Year, Cate Blanchett, and Director of the Year, David O’Rusell. Fellow Oscar nominees June Squibb and Jared Leto relaxed in the lounge prior to being interviewed by moderator Dave Karger during the sold out Tribute. Brie Larson sipped Moët Impérial from a Golden Goblet and enthusiastically took her crystallized magnum of Moët Impérial under her arm on the way out. Oscar nominee, Jared Leto, poignantly dedicated his SBIFF Virtuosos Award to the late, great Philip Seymour Hoffman making a fitting tribute to the actor during his acceptance speech for his Virtuosos award.
