Steve Jobs steps down as head of Apple

SAN FRANCISCO — Apple Inc. says Steve Jobs is resigning as CEO, effective immediately.
The company today said that Jobs will be replaced by Tim Cook, who was the company's chief operating officer. Jobs has been elected as chairman of Apple's Board of Directors.
“Steve’s extraordinary vision and leadership saved Apple and guided it to its position as the world’s most innovative and valuable technology company,” Art Levinson, chairman of Genentech, said on behalf of Apple's board in a press release on Business Wire.
