Kelvin Gastelum Puts Bisping To Sleep

Kelvin Gastelum Puts Bisping To Sleep

(MMAMANIA)

It did not end well for former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping earlier today (Sat., Nov. 25, 2017) at UFC Fight Night 122 live on Fight Pass from inside Mercedes Benz Arena in Shanghai, China, when he was put to sleep by a Kelvin Gastelum left hand.

Bisping was filling in for Anderson Silva three weeks after losing his middleweight strap to Georges St-Pierre at UFC 217 and the short turnaround just didn’t pay off for “The Count.” During an exchange early into the first round, Gastelum clipped Bisping with a nasty left hand that instantly dropped the Englishman. Insurance shots were not needed, but ultimately given, as the referee eventually jumped in for the knockout stoppage.

With this performance, Gastelum gets back into the win column after getting choked out by Chris Weidman in New York this past July. Catching Bisping on a few weeks notice certainly helped Gastelum’s chances of winning this main event, but his hands have been steadily improving over the past few years and it showed against a seasoned striker like Bisping.

Gastelum will take this victory into 2018 and make another push towards middleweight title contention. Bisping, on the other hand, will set up his retirement fight in England this March.
